Here's my experience It’s a lengthy blog but stay with me on this. I rarely ever do this online so I hope it helps you make up your mind just in case you are not sure if you would like to visit Jalsaa.
The experience I now list below is in the order I experienced things as it were.
Driving in, the first thing that pleased me was that there was ample parking, 5 steps and I reached the restaurant. Such an understated pleasure but one nonetheless. Walking in, the restaurant personified beautiful, the colour scheme, the lighting, the interior decors, the seating, and the welcome received by the maître d' - Arusha simply amazing.

The next thing I noticed that really pleased me was the ambience. There was no blaring music, there was no TV screen with sleazy videos. There was instead lovely instrumental soft music of the Classical Bollywood nature. Those of you who are fans of the old black and white Bollywood movies of decades ago will know exactly what I mean.

We were seated to our table of choice which I appreciated. I do get irked a little at restaurants where they tell you where to sit, like we are kids and cannot understand the size of table we need. Really private and nice.
The menu - The menu was a passport. A passport? Are you crazy? I hear you say. No. I am being serious. The menu was a passport. Like we were on a journey to India with this restaurant as a means of transportation, and boy! Did they take us back!
We decided to try the non-veg tandoori platter as we could try all their kebabs this way, and of course the Biryani as this dish separates the cheaters from the lot.
The kebabs were good, really good I might add. Generous quantity and very sizeable amount of meat per piece. At other restaurants, I expect a leg piece and get a wing, but not at Jalsaa. What struck me the most at this dish was the garnish. OMG! The garnish was to die for. This is what garnish should be. They did not fear putting radish in the garnish and boy! it pays off.
The Biryani – good. Had all the elements of a very well cooked biryani. First thing I noticed is how the meat just fell off the bone. The next thing I noticed is how well it was cooked with no shortcuts. There were fried shallots, roasted nuts, and every grain of rice was whole, cooked & seasoned. How often have we been to restaurants that do the lazy thing and just mix rice and gravy? Not at Jalsaa though. I could tell the Biryani was cooked the way it should be.
Dessert – Hmmm. How do I put this? OK I’ll put it in capitals for good measure. DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT TRYING THE FALOODA. I got transported to heaven and back on this one. It is simply fantastic. Nothing fancy but oh my god it works. I could describe it here like I did the previous two dishes but I would not do it justice. You have to taste it for yourselves.
Other bits – Loved that we were served a big bottle of pure water as soon as we arrived. I really hate restaurants that do not serve you water just so you are forced to buy bottled water or drinks from them. Note that I purchased 2 x drinks anyways, but the generosity of serving water is a human right often forgotten but not at Jalsaa.
The Bill – Pricing? More than reasonable. I’d say pricing is just right. They really found the balance. I just hope this restaurant maintains the prices on a reasonable note (inflation considered).
When we departed we were once again smiled at and I could just sense the genuineness in the owner – Dhiraj and the maître d' – Arusha.
So thank you to the Jalsaa team for such an awesome experience.
